Founded in 1966 in California by Paul Van Doren, accompanied by his Brother Jim and his friends Gordy and Serge, "Vans Doren Rubber Company" opens its doors. They sell their shoes directly from the production site, which is a completely unique way of working. Their slogan at the time was "Canvas sneakers for the whole family". It was following a customer's request for a special shoe color that the idea of customizing sneakers by customers came to Paul. Despite a rapid increase in popularity, it was the film from Universal Pictures studios, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" that truly made Vans popular with its checkerboard model, making these sneakers an emblem appearing even on the film's OST box. After the film, Vans sneaker sales exploded and the brand became known to everyone literally overnight. You too can customize your shoes with our selection of Vans sneakers, available now at Place des Tendances.
