Zadig et Voltaire is a French prêt-à-porter brand created in 1997 by Thierry Gillier. It isn't surprising that this man started this adventure, as he is the humble grandson of the founder of the famous crocodile brand: Lacoste The brand is named after the novel Zadig or the Book of Fate, by famous author Voltaire. Zadig, the main character, inspired the creator with his charisma, modernity and courage. These values are still completely associated with Zadig et Voltaire's collections, and have become its watchwords. The choice of cashmere and a casual rock style soon became the brand's identity. First designed for women, at the beginning of the 2000s, Zadig et Voltaire brought out men's and children's collections. The brand developed its own line of accessories, watches, bags and shoes. In 1996, Zadig et Voltaire decided to move to Saint-Germain-des-Prés and this location was the making of the brand. During that decade, Zadig et Voltaire expanded to Asia and China was chosen to open their first store. Its international breakthrough didn't stop there, as the brand also exports to European capitals and opened its first store in the United States, in Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard. Currently, there are 56 outlets around the world, including 15 in Paris. Check out all the Zadig et Voltaire pieces on Place des Tendances.
