A good pair of jeans is like a best friend hidden in your wardrobe. Loyal, you can count on them in any situation. Place Des Tendances invites you to take a look at the history of jeans, these wonderful trousers that accompany us every day. Originally, jeans were a work garment, invented by the mythical Levi's brand in 1870. The founder of the brand realised that there was a great need for an "indestructible" garment for workers. Denim was born. Not to be confused with Genoa cloth, which looks like denim but is not made the same way!
Denim is a garment that follows history and societal changes. Thus, from the end of the 30s, jeans are no longer considered as workwear but as trousers in their own right. It was not until the 1960s that jeans became a worldwide and universal phenomenon!
Today, jeans are everywhere, and everyone owns them. Today, almost every luxury brand and haute couture designer has included jeans in their shows, and they are accessible to all wallets in a multitude of styles: flared, slim, high-waisted, straight. "I have only one regret, that I didn't invent jeans," Yves Saint Laurent said in a November 1983 interview. "They have character, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - everything I want for my clothes."
