Castaner Women

Renowned for its espadrilles, Castañer has been making shoes for over two hundred years. But in the late 1960s, the company experienced a great turning point. Taken over by Lorenzo and Isabel Castañer, the company was commissioned by Yves Saint Laurent to make a pair of heeled espadrilles; this request transformed the rural espadrille into a luxury fashion item worn in fashion shows. From then on, Castañer was able to win over other fashion houses: Hermès, Louis Vuitton and even Christian Louboutin.

The 1960s were a renaissance for the Castaner company, taken over by a new generation. Lorenzo Castaner and his wife Isabel took over the reins of the company and transformed the family business by adding colour to the espadrilles, thus obtaining an authentically Mediterranean product and proliferating as a fashionable shoe. But it was their meeting with the famous designer Yves Saint-Laurent at a trade fair in Paris that led to the creation of a compensated espadrille, a great first in the world of footwear, which quickly became an indispensable part of the wardrobes of intellectuals, actors and artists.
Today Castaner continues to evolve with the intuition, enthusiasm, tradition and craftsmanship that characterise the company, always adapting to the needs and desires of all its customers. Its untouchable essence is still present today, its notable Mediterranean roots and its cosmopolitan vocation make Castaner a timeless brand.
