Founded in 1987 at the foot of Mont-Blanc, in the Aosta Valley, Napapijri is an Italian brand built around a powerful imagery: that of exploration and extreme territories. In its early days, the company designed robust travel bags, intended to accompany travel and mobile lifestyles. Very quickly, it developed a unique identity, blending alpine know-how with references to great Nordic expeditions.
The name “Napapijri” comes from Finnish napapiiri, meaning Arctic Circle. The famous Norwegian flag applied to the items became a strong symbol of the brand. However, this reference is not geographical but cultural: it evokes the spirit of adventure, resistance to cold, the quest for self-transcendence. From the outset, Napapijri thus built a brand universe at the crossroads of technical clothing, travel, and an aesthetic inspired by polar explorers.
This duality — Italian roots and Arctic imagery — forms the bedrock of its DNA. It allows Napapijri to position itself both as an outdoor brand and as a lifestyle signature, capable of telling a story beyond the simple product.
In the early 1990s, Napapijri expanded its offering and moved from bags to technical clothing. The anorak quickly became an iconic piece. Models like the Skidoo or the Rainforest embody this meeting of protection against the elements and identifiable design. Functional, resistant, but also graphic, these garments contributed to the brand's international recognition.
Progressively, Napapijri evolved from a strictly outdoor positioning to a more hybrid universe, blending performance and urban style. The brand established itself in many countries, opened dedicated boutiques, and developed complete collections: ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, and seasonal lines. Its logo and visual codes became strong markers in contemporary fashion.
Over the years, Napapijri has also integrated a more responsible approach into its development: increased use of recycled materials, reduction of animal fur use, textile innovation. This evolution accompanies a broader transformation of the fashion sector, where image, traceability, and environmental commitment take center stage.
Today, Napapijri stands as an international brand that combines outdoor heritage, travel culture, and urban aesthetics. Combining polar inspiration with Italian roots, it continues to cultivate a distinctive identity in the world of contemporary ready-to-wear.
Beyond its iconic pieces, Napapijri offers a cotton wardrobe designed for everyday wear. Well-cut basics, easy to wear, that adopt the brand's codes through super versatile tops. We guide you through the collection to find on Place des Tendances :
