The history of the Homecore brand is intimately linked to that of its founder, Alexandre Guarneri, and his way of approaching life. He discovered hip-hop at the age of 15, and it was a revelation. He began frequenting hip-hop parties, those that conveyed not the clichés of the scene, but values of respect and self-improvement, through dance, music, or any other form of artistic expression. Quickly, Alexandre tried his hand at graffiti, and what he learned from practicing this discipline still serves him today in creating clothes. In high school, he started creating screen-printed t-shirts. He responded to the emerging need among hip-hop enthusiasts to wear a brand that allowed them to claim their belonging to the movement. At the time, even in the United States, very few brands offered clothing for rappers, dancers, and graffiti artists. Alexandre was a pioneer in this field! With his associate Steph Cop, they created Homecore in 1992 to distinguish themselves from brands that were starting to copy them. Their ambition? To show Americans that the French also know how to do streetwear, and to break down all preconceptions about hip hop. XXL? Not for them. The pieces are close-fitting, light-years away from the media caricatures of the style of dress originating from the movement.
