As amazing as it may seem, it is on a beach that the legend The North Face was born. In 1966, in San Francisco's North Beach district, a pair of hikers opened a small shop specializing in climbing and camping equipment. The business soon became famous, thanks in particular to the famous tents with flexible, dome-shaped poles with no poles inside. As early as the 1960s, the young company brought together athletes with a passion for the great outdoors and began to sponsor expeditions to the remotest parts of the world. This was the beginning of a rich philosophy that will remain, until today, engraved in the brand identity: "Never Stop Exploring". In the 80s, The North Face was the only American company specialising in a complete range of technical clothing for skiing and the outdoors, backpacks, tents and sleeping bags. During the 1990s, The North Face contributed even more to the development of the outdoor world. First with the Tekware collection designed for nature lovers for maximum comfort and practicality. At the same time the half-dome logo was born and remains more and more present on the high peaks of the earth. At the end of this decade, a collection of boots and shoes completed The North Face's offer for all its customers' needs. Following in the footsteps of its co-founder Doug Tompkins, the brand is committed to participating in the conservation of our planet. This is why it is carrying out several initiatives such as the use of 100% energy from renewable sources at their Swiss headquarters and a comprehensive recycling programme for clothing, shoes and duvets. It makes these athletes ambassadors for their Hot Planet/Cool Athletes programme, which aims to make students aware of their eco-responsibility and helps them discover the great outdoors. Every day, The North Face pushes the boundaries of innovation so that its customers can push the boundaries of exploration.
