The name Nike is inspired by the Greek goddess of victory, Niké, a winged goddess capable of moving at great speed, whose most famous representation, a statue displayed at the Louvre, is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. The brand has ensured its notoriety through a simple and easily recognizable logo: the Swoosh, a backward and horizontal checkmark; it was created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 as a stylized representation of the goddess's wing.
