Created by Tinker Hatfield, a budding architect and footwear designer, the Nike Air Max was born in 1987. Drawing inspiration from the Centre Georges Pompidou, the designer aimed to replicate the bubble air architecture on his new model. Thus, the Air Max 1 became the first shoe to reveal the 'Air' technology, with the famous air bubble on the midsole present in its first model, the Air Max 1 OG Red. The 'Air' technology has been incorporated into various designs, notably in the Air Jordan collection. This innovation revitalized the Nike brand, which was on the brink of bankruptcy, and marked the beginning of a new era by completely differentiating itself from the plain designs seen up to that point. A true symbol in sneaker culture, the Air Max 1 has cemented its place. Since 2014, Nike celebrates Air Max Day every March 26th. This day honors the creation of the Air Max One and each year releases special editions for the occasion. This year, we have the Nike Air Max 1 Premium Wabi-Sabi straight from Air Max Day 2022. This pair features a white canvas upper complemented by overlays in light pink and ochre leather. The mudguard and heel of the AM1 Wabi-Sabi also feature brown and khaki suede panels, creating a mismatch effect. The silhouette is adorned with white stitching. Additionally, the Wabi-Sabi Air Max offers interchangeable patches on the top of the tongue, laces, and smiley faces reminiscent of the 'Have a Nike Day' collection. Red embroideries depicting the number 'XXXV' pay homage to the 35th anniversary of the Nike Air Max 1 collection. Finally, the sole has an aged look with crackled patterns on the gum outsole.
