Minorquines is a footwear brand that has been making sandals using traditional methods since the 19th century. The design of the shoes was dreamt up by an artisan from the island of Minorca, who understood the type of leather required to create high-quality sandals. The story of Menorquines began in the Balearic Islands in 1929, when Joseph, known as Bep, tired of his long days working in the fields, decided to try his luck in shoe manufacturing. He started making custom-made shoes and his two sons joined him as soon as they were old enough to work. In 1965, the eldest son took over the avarcas factory and decided to make it the core of his production. In order to increase their production, he did not hesitate to subcontract the manufacturing, but always keeping the manufacturing methods taught by his father, to be sure of his products, he checked each pair produced by hand.
Since then, the avarcas de Minorquines have never stopped evolving, adapting to the demands and trends of the moment, increasing their range of models and colours. Today the business is still family owned and run by his grandson Amalio, who has kept the spirit and the traditional know-how taught by his grandfather. But it was the meeting with the French designer Anne Savajol that allowed the worldwide expansion of this typical island sandal.
